Vein Removal

Unattractive veins can be a thing of the past with a laser vein removal treatment. Laser treatment can effectively address these veins for both men and women of all skin types.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins reside on the surface of your skin. These dilated vessels are often easy to see and are red, blue, or purple. Most often, spider veins appear on your thighs, calves, on your face, and ankles. These unsightly veins are common in women, but men can develop them as well. More times than not, spider veins are more of a cosmetic concern as they can become very unsightly. Most of these veins occur due to weight changes, hormone fluctuations, too much standing or sitting, and pregnancy. They may be inherited from your favorite relative.

How Can They Be Removed?

The most common way to treat unsightly spider veins is with a laser system. The heat energy from the laser can penetrate the skin, stopping the flow of blood inside the spider vein. Once the flow is blocked, the spider vein collapses and eventually disappears. Healthy blood flow will be redirected to veins that live deeper below your skin’s surface.

Who is a Candidate?

Vein removal can benefit most men and women. If your legs are itchy after sitting too long, or you have tried compression socks with no improvements, you might be a good candidate for vein removal. Spider veins typically do not cause any symptoms; they are mostly a cosmetic issue. Dr. Leeman will meet with you to discuss your concerns and determine whether you’d be a good candidate for vein removal.

What is Recovery Like After Treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, you may feel a bump around the treatment area. This is normal and should disappear within a few hours. You may notice that the area is slightly redder than other parts of your skin. This side effect will also resolve quickly. Most patients can go right back to their routines after their vein removal treatment. It is essential to continue to stay out of the sun. You can support the healing process by wearing a support hose. If there is any pain, an over-the-counter pain medicine such as Tylenol will be all that is needed.

Is laser treatment painful?

During treatment, you might feel a slight tingling sensation or a feeling similar to a rubber band snapping on your wrist as the laser travels over your skin. A local anesthetic can be used to numb the area. The lasers used today have a built-in safety mechanism that prevents the tip of the laser from damaging your skin.

Are there any preparations that I need to make before my vein treatment procedure?

There are a few things to consider before your vein removal appointment. Avoid aspirin or other blood thinners before treatment. It is also suggested that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for at least a week before your appointment. Sun exposure should be avoided. If you work outside, be sure to apply a good sunscreen at all times.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing FAQ,,'s

What does the fractional laser do to my skin?

The laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic injuries in your skin, which induce immediate skin tightening and stimulate new collagen growth. Patients are often amazed at how tight their skin feels immediately after the procedure. Fractional laser resurfacing is designed to improve the skin’s texture and tone and to smooth fine lines, deep wrinkles, and acne scars.

How is fractional laser resurfacing from other laser treatments?

Unlike other laser resurfacing technologies, Fractional laser resurfacing leaves islands of healthy tissue surrounding the microscopic injuries. This enables your skin to heal more rapidly and minimizes damage.

What is the recovery after fractional laser resurfacing?

After the procedure, your skin will be red, similar to a sunburn. The redness will linger for a few days. By day three or four, you will experience some peeling as fresh, supple, younger looking skin appears. In most cases, your skin will return to its normal appearance in about seven to ten days. After the laser procedure is completed, a cold compress will be applied. During the recovery period you will apply a hydrating lotion to keep your skin moist and promote healing. In most cases, you may resume applying makeup after about three days.

How long does the fractional laser resurfacing procedure take?

In most cases, fractional laser resurfacing can be performed on an entire face within 20 to 30 minutes. Smaller areas will take less time.

How many treatments will I need with fractional laser resurfacing?

Excellent results can be achieved in a single session. However, if you have severe wrinkling or deep acne scars, you may benefit from a series of treatments spaced about one month apart. We will advise you on the results you can reasonably expect, and whether you may require several treatments to achieve the level of skin rejuvenation you envision.

How do I maintain my results?

Basic skincare, thorough cleansing and sun protection are key to ensuring your results last. Wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure whenever possible. This is particularly important in the weeks following treatment.

Is fractional laser resurfacing FDA approved?

The fractional laser skin resurfacing system used by Dr. Leeman is FDA approved to treat a range of skin concerns.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ,,'s

How does laser hair removal feel?

Every patient is going to be different in how they experience the process of laser removal feels. The darker and coarser the hair is, the higher energy the laser will require, so the more you will feel the sensation of the laser. The less hair you have, the less you will feel the laser. With each treatment, you will feel the discomfort level decreasing due to the hair becoming thinner.

Can people with darker complexions have laser hair removal?

We can treat all skin colors with laser hair removal. However, we have to be more cautious with those who have a darker complexion. This is because the laser is attracted to pigment, so the darker the skin you have, the more the laser will pick up on the skin and not the actual hair follicle. This being said, we can still treat those with a darker complexion; we just treat you with caution so you can get the best results.

When do you start to see results?

People vary is when they start to see results. Typically, six to eight treatments are needed until you will achieve the final results. With each session, you should see a 15% decrease in hair growth in the area being treated. As the treatments continue, you will notice that your hair is less coarse and returning to the treated area less and less.

How long does a laser hair removal treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on what area you are treating. Typically, treatments take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. We believe in giving our patients the best possible care that they deserve by making sure they are comfortable throughout the whole treatment process. Never worry about whether you shaved for that pool party or first date again. I'm pregnant, am I still a candidate?

While there is little known about any effects of doing laser hair removal during pregnancy, we usually recommend waiting for the baby to come before doing laser hair removal treatment, as your body goes through many changes during pregnancy, and this can affect hair growth.

How can I prepare for the treatment?

The root of your hair must be present in the area you want to be treated, so refrain from waxing, using hair removal cream, or anything that could affect the roots of your hair. Shaving the day before, however, can enhance the laser’s ability to target your follicles and improve the results.

What is the minimum age?

Patients must be at least 13 years old before receiving laser treatment, as up to that age, the body is still in its formative stages. Those who are between 13 and 17 years old must have parental consent before receiving treatment.
