The nasal bone is the most commonly broken bone in the human body. If you have sustained an injury and suspect that your nose is broken, it is important to see an ENT specialist within one week.

Common signs of a nasal fracture include:

  • Nosebleed
  • Swelling on the inside and outside of the nose
  • Bruising under the eyes
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
Nasal Fracture

If your nose has not been displaced, there may be no needed treatment beyond restful care. If your nose has been fractured badly enough to be repositioned, surgery may be recommended. Dr. Leeman can reset the nose to correct the displacement and clear nasal obstruction. The outpatient procedure can be performed under local anesthesia.

If more than two weeks pass after the injury, you may need to wait a few months before repair of the nasal fracture in order to allow adequate healing and reduce swelling. At this point, a rhinoplasty can not only straighten the displaced nose but reshape the nose as desired.
