What is PRP Hair Restoration?

“PRP” in this treatment stands for “platelet rich plasma” – blood plasma with a higher than normal concentration of platelets. Our Austin PRP hair restoration treatment is a three-step process in which:

  • A small amount of blood is drawn;
  • The blood is processed to obtain plasma rich in platelets; and
  • The platelet rich plasma is injected into the scalp.

Am I a Good Candidate For PRP Hair Restoration?

If you are a woman or man with thinning hair, you may be a good candidate for PRP hair restoration in Austin. This treatment may be recommended for men with male pattern baldness and for women with androgenic alopecia (hair loss). After a consultation and evaluation, we can tell you if PRP hair restoration is the right treatment option for you.

What Can I Expect With a PRP Hair Restoration Treatment?

You will need a series of several treatments, approximately four to six weeks apart. Your blood will be drawn (usually from the arm) and placed in a centrifuge to separate platelet rich plasma from the other components of the blood. Then the platelet rich plasma will be injected with a syringe into areas of the scalp with thinning hair, at the level of the hair follicles. The entire procedure typically takes less than half an hour.

Is There Any Downtime After PRP Hair Restoration?

There is no downtime and minimal discomfort with PRP hair restoration treatments. You can go about your normal routine immediately after the procedure. Ice packs and over-the-counter medications can be used to manage any post-treatment discomfort you may experience. Any bruising should resolve within one to two weeks.

PRP Hair Restoration FAQ's

How does platelet rich plasma stimulate hair growth?

Platelets are cells in the blood that play an important role in clotting and also contain hundreds of growth factors – substances required for the stimulation of growth in living cells. Plasma (liquid part of the blood) with a high concentration of platelets helps promote hair growth when injected into the scalp.

When will I see results with PRP hair restoration?

Consistency is key for best results with PRP hair restoration therapy. When you follow the recommended protocol, first results are typically visible in two to three months. Results may include decreased hair loss, early regrowth, and increased hair length. Continued treatments every three to six months on a long-term basis may be recommended for optimal growth.

What are the benefits of PRP hair restoration?

PRP hair restoration uses growth factors in your own blood to help stimulate hair growth. Benefits of this treatment include:

  • Natural treatment, using your own blood, platelets, and growth factors
  • Affordable, cost-effective solution to thinning hair
  • High success rate for treatment
  • No medications or scarring
  • Visible results within a few months in most cases
