What does the fractional laser do to my skin?
The laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic injuries in your skin, which induce immediate skin tightening and stimulate new collagen growth. Patients are often amazed at how tight their skin feels immediately after the procedure. Fractional laser resurfacing is designed to improve the skin’s texture and tone and to smooth fine lines, deep wrinkles, and acne scars.
How is fractional laser resurfacing from other laser treatments?
Unlike other laser resurfacing technologies, Fractional laser resurfacing leaves islands of healthy tissue surrounding the microscopic injuries. This enables your skin to heal more rapidly and minimizes damage.
What is the recovery after fractional laser resurfacing?
After the procedure, your skin will be red, similar to a sunburn. The redness will linger for a few days. By day three or four, you will experience some peeling as fresh, supple, younger looking skin appears. In most cases, your skin will return to its normal appearance in about seven to ten days. After the laser procedure is completed, a cold compress will be applied. During the recovery period you will apply a hydrating lotion to keep your skin moist and promote healing. In most cases, you may resume applying makeup after about three days.
How long does the fractional laser resurfacing procedure take?
In most cases, fractional laser resurfacing can be performed on an entire face within 20 to 30 minutes. Smaller areas will take less time.
How many treatments will I need with fractional laser resurfacing?
Excellent results can be achieved in a single session. However, if you have severe wrinkling or deep acne scars, you may benefit from a series of treatments spaced about one month apart. We will advise you on the results you can reasonably expect, and whether you may require several treatments to achieve the level of skin rejuvenation you envision.
How do I maintain my results?
Basic skincare, thorough cleansing and sun protection are key to ensuring your results last. Wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure whenever possible. This is particularly important in the weeks following treatment.
Is fractional laser resurfacing FDA approved?
