Living with overly large breasts can be detrimental to both your physical and mental health. A breast reduction, also referred to as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size and weight of the breast by removing excess skin, breast tissue, and fat to create a smaller, more balanced breast profile.
What is a breast reduction?
For many women with large breasts, physical and emotional pain are an accepted part of daily life, but overlarge breasts can be surgically corrected.
A breast reduction can give you the ability to participate in physical activities that were impossible or very uncomfortable with heavy breasts, such as running or high impact training. When you have overly large breasts finding clothes can be challenging, with the daily discomfort can take its toll on your mental health and physical comfort and health.
A breast reduction from Dr. Daniel J. Leeman can help to ease your physical pain while reducing your breasts to a size that is more in keeping with the proportions of your body.
What are the benefits of a breast reduction?
When you are living with extremely large breasts, a breast reduction can have myriad benefits including:
- Relief of chronic neck and/or back pain
- Providing relief for chronic under-breast chafing or infections
- Relief of nerve pain
- Improve the proportions of your breasts to your overall body size and shape
- Improve your ability to wear standard bra and clothing sizes
- Enhance your feelings of wellbeing and confidence
What can I expect during a breast reduction?
The methodology and techniques used during your breast reduction will be determined by your unique needs in seeking a breast reduction. Your procedure will be performed in the comfort and convenience of our state-of-the-art Mueller Surgical Center under general anesthesia. Dr. Leeman will carefully reshape the size of your breasts, removing excess fat, skin, and breast tissue to craft a more attractive breast profile, paying special attention to creating symmetry and balance to enhance your figure.
What is the recovery from a breast reduction like?
You will experience mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and tenderness following your procedure which can be well-managed with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Leeman. Wearing a compression garment in the weeks following your procedure will encourage your body’s own natural healing processes and help your breasts adapt to their new shape.
You should plan to sleep on your back for at least two weeks following your procedure, and avoid strenuous activities including heavy lifting for at least four weeks. Dr. Leeman will provide detailed post-operative instructions for you to follow during your recovery period.
What is the cost of a breast reduction?
The cost of breast reduction can vary, based upon the extent of the changes needed. The cost is generally in the range of $6,000 to $9,000. In many cases, health insurance covers some portion of the cost when health conditions such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, rashes, chafing, or other symptoms are affecting comfort and health.
