Reshape Your Nose with Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job”, is the fifth most common cosmetic procedure according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The name comes from the word “rhino”, meaning nose, and “plasty”, meaning to form, mold or shape. Plastic surgeons often claim rhinoplasty is the most difficult and artistic of all cosmetic procedures because it involves three-dimensional alterations that alter other parts of the face.
How Do I Prepare for Rhinoplasty?
Before your rhinoplasty procedure, we will review your realistic expectations for your treatment. The most appropriate techniques can then be determined to meet your expectations. It is advised that you refrain from taking any medications that can interfere with blood clotting prior to your procedure. If you are a smoker, you should also stop smoking for a minimum of one month prior to your procedure and one month after. This is because smoking slows the healing process and extends your recovery time.
Pre-operative analysis is an extremely important part of rhinoplasty preparation. Patients are sometimes encouraged to bring photos of how they expect their results to appear. We can also show patients before-and-after photos of previous patients who have had the procedure done.
What Will Happen During My Rhinoplasty Procedure?
The procedure usually takes no longer than three hours. During a typical procedure, cartilage and/or bone can be rearranged and removed for the purpose of reshaping your nose. The details of each procedure vary from patient to patient, since every individual’s face and nose is unique. However, the end result is a nose with a better shape, size and overall contour.
What Should I Expect Following My Procedure?
Your rhinoplasty results can often be visible after your swelling goes down and the nasal splint is removed. After about two months or so, most of your swelling should have subsided. Your nose should continue to become more refined over the following weeks and months. Once you have fully recovered, you can enjoy your new nose for years to come.
