Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation – What You Need to Know
Women choose to undergo breast augmentation for many reasons. At the office of Dr. Daniel J. Leeman, we understand the choice to augment is a personal one that you do not take lightly. We are happy to offer our patients multiple augmentation options, including fat transfer breast augmentation.
Fat transfer breast augmentation is a more natural approach to enhancing and/or reshaping your breasts. The procedure uses your body’s own fat, rather than an implant, for breast enhancement. An added benefit of the procedure is that other areas of your body are contoured in order to harvest the fat that is needed. This means you will not only have the breasts you desire but a more refined overall aesthetic after the procedure as well.
Where is the Fat Taken From?
The beauty of using your own fat to augment your breasts is that you can have stubborn pockets of fat removed from various parts of your body. The fat needed can be harvested from a number of different areas. Liposuction is used to remove the fat from the area of choice.
What Issues Can Fat Augmentation Address?
Fat transfer breast augmentation is useful in correcting various issues of the breasts. If you have a naturally smaller bust and/or asymmetry to your breasts, they can be plumped and made more symmetrical. If your breast size has decreased following nursing or because of weight loss, fat transfer can restore your breasts to their natural size or enhance them. Volume lost because of aging can also be restored.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you would like to augment your breasts and have fat elsewhere on your body you would like removed, you may be a candidate for the procedure. From a medical perspective, we require that you:
- Are at or near a healthy weight
- Have the fat stores available to perform the procedure
- Are in good health overall, including no serious illnesses
- Have enough existing breast tissue
What is the Procedure Like?
Fat transfer breast augmentation is normally done on an outpatient basis. Most women are able to return home the same day. You will be asleep for the procedure. Liposuction will be used to harvest fat. The fat removed will be processed, purified, and any liquids will be extracted. It will then be injected into the breasts to achieve the desired results.
