What is Otoplasty/Ear Surgery?

Our Austin otoplasty is a surgical procedure to help improve abnormally shaped ears, in the young or old. If your ears are large or protrude, we can change their position, shape, and contour. Also called otoplasty or ear pinning, cosmetic ear surgery can be performed on children as young as age five, and adults of any age who are safe for minor surgery.

Who is a Good Candidate For Ear Surgery?

This procedure may be recommended for men, women, and children with prominent ears who are self-conscious and would like to make their ears less noticeable. Potential candidates for otoplasty include:

  • Men who would like to wear their hair shorter but do not, because of their prominent ears
  • Women who would like to wear their hair pulled back, but are not comfortable doing so because they are embarrassed by their ears
  • Children with prominent ears who may have been bullied or teased at school

What Should I Expect With Ear Surgery?

Our Austin ear surgery generally takes one to two hours. Depending on the needs and desires of the patient, this timeframe can vary. Dr. Leeman makes incisions behind the ear, where they are easily hidden in the natural crease. He removes excess skin and resculpts the cartilage, reducing the size of the ears and repositioning them so they lie back as they should. Long-lasting sutures may be placed in the cartilage to secure its position and create natural-looking ear folds. Ear surgery is often performed under local anesthesia with sedation.

What is Recovery Like After Ear Surgery?

Recovery time is typically one week. After the surgery, you will wear a soft, padded pressure bandage to protect your ears and hold them in place. After five to seven days, the bandage may be removed. At that time, it is advised to wear a stretchy headband or stocking cap for a week or longer, especially at night. You should not sleep on your side for three weeks after the surgery. You should also refrain from bending over during the first three weeks. You will be able to resume normal activity one month after surgery.

How do platelet rich plasma treatments work?

When Dr. Leeman and his team introduce the platelet rich plasma to the skin, your own concentration of cells will work with your body to naturally promote a “structure and signals” process for new tissue and collagen growth. Platelet rich plasma can either be injected directly into the face or used to enhance the results of other treatments including fractional laser resurfacing therapy, facial fat grafting, Brazilian butt lifts, or natural breast augmentation.

How does platelet rich plasma benefit the skin?

The internal essence of the blood inside you contains life-giving, fundamental protein growth factors that are designed to restore and strengthen your body. Dr. Leeman uses platelet rich plasma treatments to harness a high concentration of your own biological nutrient-rich cells and unleashes them to naturally promote skin health. These nutrient-rich cells stimulate the regeneration of the underlying structural integrity of your skin.

When will I see the results?

After PRP treatment, patients often notice fine lines and wrinkles have softened and deeper wrinkled areas, such as nasolabial folds, look plumper and smoother. The main goal of the treatment is to stimulate fibroblasts and develop long-term collagen formations in the dermis. Your results will be gradual and vary from person to person based on health, age, and genetic make-up. Most patients enjoy quantifiable improvements in skin complexion, texture and tone within three weeks. Subtle improvements can progressively continue for up to 2 years.

What areas of the body can be treated?

Platelet rich plasma treatments are derived from your own biological make-up and do not contain synthetic products. Therefore, virtually any area of the body can be treated, including your face, neck, chest, hands, scars, and more.

How should I take care of my skin after my platelet rich plasma treatment?

In order to enjoy a maximum response to your treatment, it is important to eat right, drink plenty of water and incorporate the facial care recommended by Dr. Leeman.

Neck Lift FAQs

How long do neck lift results last?

In most cases, neck lift results will last approximately 10 years. Of course, the natural aging process continues after surgery. Care and condition of the skin are contributing factors to the longevity of neck lift results. If you wish to learn more, contact us today and schedule a consultation for arguably the best neck lift Austin has to offer.

Are there any risks?

Like all surgeries, there is always a slight degree of risk. However, when your neck lift is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an advanced, sterile, and accredited facility, the risks are significantly reduced. Neck lifts are considered one of the safest surgical procedures, and complications are rare. During your initial consultation, Dr. Leeman will discuss the possible complications, as well as what can be done to avoid them.

Will there be any scars?

Our Austin neck lift procedure, like any other cosmetic surgery, does require small incisions that will leave minor scarring. However, these scars are hidden and fade over time. Once you’re past the initial few weeks, your scars should be almost unnoticeable.

Brow Lift FAQ's

What are the benefits of a brow lift?

Our Austin forehead lift is designed to combat the signs of aging by reducing frown or worry lines for a smooth, more youthful appearance. Brow lifts can also be used to raise naturally low or heavy brows. Most brow lifts result in increased confidence and heightened self-image and self-esteem.

Are the results of a brow lift long-lasting?

While the aging process will continue after brow lift surgery, patients will continue to appear younger than their actual age. Some patients will opt to have a second surgery, but this will not be necessary until 10 to 15 years from the initial brow lift.

What are the risks and side effects of a brow lift?

Complications with brow lift surgery are extremely rare, and most can be corrected with surgery. Possible complications and risks include nerve damage that can lead to uncontrollable muscle functions, scarring, hair loss, and loss of feeling in the forehead. As with any surgery, infection is a risk. Smokers have a higher risk of complications during the skin healing process.

Ear Surgery FAQ's

What conditions can be addressed with ear surgery?

Dr. Leeman is able to effectively pin back or reshape the outer ear. Advanced techniques are also available to treat more severe ear problems. In rare cases when a baby is born with no outer ear at all, a natural looking ear can be constructed. Dr. Leeman can also employ reconstructive procedures to repair ears damaged by traumatic injury or complications resulting from ear piercing.

Will ear surgery affect my hearing?

No, a change in shape of the ear will not affect hearing. Although the ears fold and convolutions do serve to concentrate and localize sound waves, routine ear surgery to pin back or reshape the ears will not produce a noticeable change in hearing.

How old must a patient be to undergo otoplasty?

Surgery to pin back protruding ears may be done as early as age five or six. By this time, the ear has achieved much of its adult size and is almost completely formed. The cartilage, however, is still soft and easily molded, making it possible to achieve excellent results and fast healing for children.

Is Dr. Leeman board-certified?

Yes, Dr. Leeman is actually double board-certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

What are the benefits of eyelid surgery?

The eyes are the first thing you notice on a person, and as we age, the skin above the eyes can begin to droop and the skin beneath the eyes can form into bags, causing a person to look tired, old, or sad. A Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, to improve the appearance and give you a rejuvenated facial look, leaving you appearing far more rested, youthful, and alert.

When will I see results from my eyelid surgery?

The results of eyelid surgery will appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside to reveal a smooth, better-defined eyelid and surrounding region, and an alert and rejuvenated appearance. Your final results will appear within several weeks, but it may take up to a year for incision lines to fully refine. While eyelid surgery can be expected to correct certain conditions for years and years, you will continue to age naturally. Ensuring you apply sun protection will help you maintain your results.

What are the risks of eyelid surgery?

As with any surgery, infection is a risk with eyelid surgery. Nerve damage, adverse reactions to anesthesia, and problems with the healing of the skin are also risks involved with eyelid surgery. Smokers have a higher risk of complications during the skin healing process.

How long does eyelid surgery take and what form of anesthesia is used?

Eyelid surgeries generally take approximately one hour. Depending on needs and desires of patients, this timeframe can vary. Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The choices include intravenous sedation, local, or general anesthesia. Dr. Leeman has performed many eyelid surgeries under local anesthesia with sedation.

Facial Fat Grafting FAQ's

What are the benefits of facial fat grafting?

This innovative procedure harvests fat from your own body. The fat is then used as a filler to restore lost volume in the cheeks, under the eyes and anywhere time and gravity have taken their toll. Results are long lasting, smooth and natural-looking.

What is body jet water-assisted liposuction?

Body jet water-assisted liposuction is a totally new liposuction technique and the first of its kind in the US. Using the flow of water to dislodge fat, this technique is unlike any other and provides many advantages. Using a gentle, pulsating spray of fluid, water-jet assisted liposuction dislodges fat without the force of traditional liposuction procedures. Fat is loosened from connective tissues and simultaneously extracted. This gentle method results in minimal bruising and tissue trauma, while still achieving excellent results. The fat is harvested safely and is in optimal condition for transfer to other areas of the body.

How long do the fat injections last?

If the donor fat is properly harvested and processed, a large percentage of fat cells will survive the crucial period until they begin to flourish in the new location. Once the cells are settled and have a blood supply, they remain for your lifetime. Of course, your face will naturally continue to age as time passes.

What are the risks involved with facial fat grafting?

As with any procedure, complications and risks include bruising and swelling, infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia, and problems with the healing of the skin. Smokers have a higher risk of complications during the skin healing process.

Lip Enhancement FAQs

Is the lip enhancement procedure painful?

For most patients, any discomfort typically resolves after 24 to 48 hours, although your lips will be sensitive to light or medium pressure for about two weeks.

Is there much bruising involved with lip enhancement?

Like all surgeries, there is always a slight degree of risk. However, when your neck lift is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an advanced, sterile, and accredited facility, the risks are significantly reduced. Neck lifts are considered one of the safest surgical procedures, and complications are rare. During your initial consultation, Dr. Leeman will discuss the possible complications, as well as what can be done to avoid them.

When will I be able to see the results of my lip enhancement?

Your lips will appear larger and swollen in the first few days post-operatively. As the swelling subsides the optimal look will become visible.

I have heard that the risk of infection is quite high in lip implants, is this true?

Infection is a risk with any surgical procedure. Although one might expect the risk of infection to be high in the mouth area, the observed infection rate with PermaLip is extremely low, with an expected rate of infection to be below 1%. You will be prescribed both antibiotics and anti-cold sore medicine to minimize the risk of infection.

How are lip implants comparable to injectables?

The implants used during our Austin lip enhancement procedure do not wear off like temporary injectables. Temporary injectables are associated with repeat treatments every few months, as the body breaks down and sheds the filler over time. Therefore, repetitive, painful, and costly injection procedures are required indefinitely to maintain full, plump lips.

Longer-lasting lip fillers are available. This type of filler does not need to be repeated as regularly but is far more difficult to remove if you are dissatisfied. If an undesirable appearance results, or if you wish to return your lips to their original size, this may be difficult to accomplish. PermaLip has the advantage of being long-lasting, yet easily reversible, for the best of both worlds.

Will my significant other be able to feel Permalip when we kiss?

The vast majority of our patients report that their partners cannot feel the implants while kissing. The extent to which you can feel the implant depends upon whether you had very thin lips before your procedure. If you had thin lips and then had a larger implant placed, it may be possible to feel the change – but it is a pleasant, natural soft sensation.

Can the PermaLip implant leak or rupture?

No. PermaLip is unique in that it is manufactured from a very soft, but solid, silicone.

Rhinoplasty FAQ,,s

What is the average cost of rhinoplasty in Austin, TX??

The cost of rhinoplasty can vary significantly based on the degree of correction you need, but you can expect to spend in the range of $6,000 to $10,000. Dr. Leeman will provide you with an accurate price for your customized rhinoplasty during your consultation.

How long is the procedure?

Rhinoplasty can take from an hour and a half to three hours, depending on how much correction you need, and the techniques used. Once Dr. Leeman has examined you and determined what your surgery will entail, he will provide you with a more specific estimate.

When can I blow my nose after surgery?

After receiving rhinoplasty, you must avoid blowing your nose for one week to avoid excess bleeding. In some cases, we recommend waiting longer, up to three weeks.

Will I have scars?

As rhinoplasty surgery involves an incision at the base of the strip of tissue between your nostrils (columella) or within the nose, the scars are virtually invisible. Initially, the incision will appear red but will fade to a thin white line hidden below the nose structure.

Will the procedure be painful?

If your rhinoplasty was minor, we will likely perform the surgery using only local anesthesia – in which case you may feel pressure, but no pain. If your rhinoplasty involves more extensive adjustments, we may recommend the use of general anesthesia. After the procedure is complete, you will likely experience mild discomfort and pain due to the swelling, but generally, the recovery is not difficult to experience.

How soon can I start exercising?

As an average, it can take about four weeks for patients to heal enough that they can resume light exercise. We have, however, seen patients heal faster and return to exercise or other vigorous activities more quickly.
